Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment where repeated high-pressure percussions are delivered to a targeted area of the body. These “shocks” create sound waves that break up scar tissue, adhesions, calcifications and cause an inflammatory response that brings new blood flow to the area, essentially kick-starting the healing process. Pain is also reduced.

Shockwave Therapy is used to treat a variety of health conditions including muscle, tendon, and joint injuries. It can be an effective treatment for chronic overuse injuries, injuries where healing has stagnated, pain relief, and scar tissue repair.

Here are some examples where Shockwave has proven to be highly effective:

Plantar fasciitis, Heel spurs

• Tendonopathies seen in the Rotator Cuff, Achilles, Patella

Medial and lateral epicondylitis (Golfer’s and tennis elbow)

Various sprains and strains

Trigger points

An initial Physiotherapy Assessment is required to see if Shockwave Therapy is a right fit for your body. A minimum of 3 treatments is usually indicated for lasting effects.

The initial Physiotherapy Assessment and 20 minute treatments include the Shockwave Therapy fee. Please note that there is an additional fee for Shockwave Therapy with 45 or 60 minute treatments.
